Niacinamide, also called nicotinamide, is a form of vitamin B3. The NIH Office of Dietary Supplements fact sheet describes niacin's role in NAD-related processes and nutritional requirements. A biological role in energy metabolism does not establish that high-dose supplementation improves daily energy in someone with adequate intake.
Three outcomes that should stay separate
A nutrient can participate in a biochemical pathway without additional supplementation improving symptoms. A study may show a biomarker change without showing a meaningful difference in fatigue. It may also investigate a different outcome, such as a skin-related condition, that cannot be transferred to an energy claim.
To assess a paper, identify the exact preparation, participant population, comparison group, duration and measured outcome. The presence of niacinamide in a formula is not enough to conclude that the formula reproduces the study.
Safety and dose context
